Etsy T-T-T-Tuesday: You just can’t top that!

Oh Tuesday. Not quite the tingly middle of the week, not nearly the bitter start nor the melancholic end that brings the realisation that it’s all about to start again. You. Yes, YOU are the real middle child of the week. Poor thing. But not to despair, because you Tuesday, you bring to us treats from etsy and for that I am grateful.

Following in the spirit of my wedding post yesterday, this week’s Etsy T-T-T-Tuesday is dedicated to the top of the wedding cake.

Vintage cake topper

Vintage Cake topper

How about this for a piece of something old for your nuptial celebrations? This vintage cake topper dates to around 1940 and has been altered only slightly to keep the spirit of the old school vibe. I think it’s beautiful and for the right couple a piece they would remember forever. It only costs $55 at Paperflora’s store.

birdie cake topper

Love brids on tree stump

Tweet tweet. Don’t mind us, we’re just a couple of love birds. If you saw this and said the word ‘cute’ you’ve echo’ed my reaction. While not my personal choice, I couldn’t help but smile at the mere adorablity of these lovely birdie toppers. Priced at $100, they are highly customizable, from the colour of the grooms attire, to the brides bouquet to eye colours and more (oh did I mention the eyes are Swarovski crystals??). Get them at Kikuike’s store.

Custom Figurine

Custom Figurine

I’m so sold on this its not even funny..the bobble head type figurine (I don’t believe the heads actually ‘bobble’ on these..) are too (geeky) kewl for school! The ability to have them look just like the bride and groom is a huge plus and a unique take on the traditional topper. Priced at $298, you can order one now from Mark 13148’s store.

All you need is love

LOVE cake topper

After all, it’s all we need right? This is such a kewl idea. The iconic ‘LOVE’ scultpure by Robert Indiana is recongised all over the world. It’s so simple, yet so powerful. I used to pass the one on sixth avenue all the time – it just made me smile. How about it for an interesting and unique topper? The butterfly design studio sells them in a variety of colours at $88 a piece. Get it while it’s there!

Etsy T-T-T-Tuesday: fabrics by Skinny laMinx

If you are a long time reader of this blog you are probably wondering why the name Skinny laMinx sounds familiar. A few month’s back I posted my efforts at her Aunt Betty’s Banana bread recipe. To this day it’s one of my favourite things to make.

Skinny, real name Heather Moore, is a talented lady in her own right. Based in South Africa she is an illustrator and designer who churns out beautiful printed fabrics that are used to make tea towels, napkins or anything your heart desires such as placemats or tablecloths. You will notice that Heather’s designs have a vintage feel – a simple repeated pattern in a bold hue as well as great use of the fabrics natural colour as part of the design. While she takes credit for the design work, the printing is professionally done in Cape Town onto fabric that’s woven in South Africa. I’ve long been a fan of her fabrics and kitchen textiles and hope you like them too.

Colts in Teal Tea TowelColts in teal – tea towel

Part of the Sevilla Rock collection, this towel is inspired by the work of Heather’s friend Peter Slingsby, a cartographer and rock art enthusiast who faithfully photographs and records rock art sites. Also available in other colours and are priced at $12.50 a piece.

Abacus Napkins in CharcoalAbacus Napkins in Charcoal

A medley of hand drawn circles adorns these cotton/linen napkins. The lack of uniformity is charming and makes the serious act of being a napkin that much more casual. They come as a set of four for $30, but if you send Heather a nice note you can order in other quantities too.

Cloud Birds YardageCloud Birds Yardage

Based on an original papercut, this yardage is screenprinted in waterbased inks onto a cotton/linen basecloth. A fully washable multi-use fabric, I must admit that I would love to see this fabric as a tablecloth..(if only I had a dining table!!). $14 a yard is a steal for this carefully designed piece.

Go to Kkinny laMinx’s etsy page to see more great fabric options for your home.

Etsy t-t-t-tuesday: Making wish lists come true

Ahh wish lists, lust lists, want lists – whichever way you call them, they all equate to one thing: things we want and momentarily can’t have. Either due to budget constraints or availability.

A few weeks back I posted an Indoor Garden Party moodboard that was a wish list of sorts. I want summer to stick around a wee bit longer (thank you NY, it appears that that wish is coming true), and I wish with an unlimited budget that I could buy everything on said moodboard. But alas..budget constraints and what not.

So this week, I thought, ‘what if’ I tried to source similar items off etsy to create the same indoor/outdoor dining setting at a somewhat more available price? The alternatives were not much of a compromise and were in some cases, a lot more rustic and interesting. Check it out:

Etsy indoor garden party

1.Vintage Wolff and Reessing Anchovy Mustard Wood Crate 1888 Trademark – $58 by “>Fabuless Finds. The original crate I fashioned as a bread basket and this is no exception.

2. Poplar Round Cutting Board (Sm) – $12 by boards and beads. A suitable substitute for the placemats idea proposed in the initial moodboard.

3. Crated Glass Water Jug – $125 by serotonum soap. This totally exceeded my expectations for a vessel to carry home made soda..the crate surrounding the glass jug is just BRILLIANT. I would buy this in a HEARTBEAT!

4. Antique French Silver Cutlery and Serving Set 21 pieces – $55 by deborah shop. Such lovely scrolled detail and enough tarnish to be vintagely kewl.

5. Set of 40 Tissue Poms. Pick Your Colors – $130 by fiesta pom pom. You don’t have to get all 40, as fiesta pom pom offers lesser amounts, but using these to create a ceiling floral display would be a nice alternative to a floral table display and could be used over and over.

6. Hand Screen Printed Fabric – Yellow Belbird – $16.50 for napkins by melbomba. With a few zips zip zips of the sewing machine one could fashion their own napkins…perfect!

7. Mid Century Modern Pewter Mushroom Salt and Pepper Set – $12 by Urban Mining Co. Too cute. Nuff said.

8. Rectangle Concrete Bowl with Moss Stones – $45 by benjrs. How’s this for a center piece? This rectangle planter is brilliant, what a presence, and the moss stones instead of flowers or succulents is an interesting visual alternative.

9. Antique circa 1930s Sovereign Canada tea set – $35 from fuchsia 1. A beaut of a tea set with enough settings for 6 persons. Fragile, beautiful and classic. It makes me think of tea in the garden on a sunny English day.

10 & 11 – VINTAGE GREEN TOILE PAISLEY FLOWERS TRANSFERWARE PLATE – $13.99 by english transfareware and a variety of transferware plates from english transferware priced from $12-$30+ This store stocks a variety of great transferware plates and serving platters. A must see.

Etsy T-T-T-Tuesday: Packing lunch. Not heat.

If you close your eyes and pretend, then no one has to know its actually Wednesday ok? Ok.

A day late but not a dollar short, no sirree..it’s been what those in the industry call ‘one o’ dem weeks’, where industry is, uhm, everyone. So this weeks etsy roundup is a little later than usual but touches on something close to my heart – the good ole, good ole, packed lunch. As a kid I never took a packed lunch to school and I loved, yes loved school dinners. (Except for quiche days and rhubarb and custard days).

I always envied the kids who would saunter in in the morning with their She-ra or *Batman lunch boxes, more for the box than it’s contents. Maybe there was also the envy of their not having to wait in line to be fed..yes I’ve always been craven. So as it is back to school time, I thought I would scour etsy for packed lunch ideas for your little tyke.

Eco sandwich wrap

Eco sandwich wrap

A rather interesting alternative to foil or cling film.. the sandwich wrap is made from cotton and can be cleaned and washed when dirty..and is oh so much prettier than foil. Priced at $7 you can pick up yours in a variety of pattersn (or custom made if you so wish), at Moja creations.

lunch tote

Lunch Tote

Oh so cute..how about a sweet little felt lunch tote instead of the typical metal or plastic lunch box? Yes, this does raise issues of ‘what if it rains’ but would it be the first time you threw practicality to the wind in place of aesthetics? Didn’t think so..Made from hemp and unbleached cotton , “This eco-friendly tote keeps plastic bags and harmful materials away from your food.”

Sounds good to me. How does $15 sound to you? Good? Here it is then!

Lunch Box Love Notes

Lunch Box Love Notes

I’m a sucker for stationery and until the other day had never even heard of lunch box love notes! How lovely are these little pep-talk notes to slip in between your dearest’s homemade ciabatta bread and brie slices?! (At least thats what MY kids would be eating..). $4 for a set is a small price to pay for a little love with your lunch.

Japanese Style Lunch Bag

Japanese Style Lunch Bag

I am in complete lust with these Japanese style wrapped lunch bags. Made from vintage fabrics, when fully opened the bag lays flat on the table to serve as a placemat. Once emptied it is collapsible and lightweight and can be easily stored in a backpack. Kewl huh? Plus the ties instead of handles just makes your kid look like a lil hipster..aww bless. I want one for myself! Little Sapling sells these goodies for $22.

* I actually now do own a batman lunchbox and I keep it on display in my kitchen, without shame. Without shame.

Etsy T-t-t-tuesday: Fonduely yours..

Ah fondue..it’s one of those things I’ve always meant to do but never get around to it. There is something attractive about a small pot over a tiny heat source melting chocolate or cheese ( two of my favourite things ) and dipping in skewered fruits and what not..yum. Truth be told I went to a fondue party once and don’t even own a fondue pot. For shame. Thank goodness there is etsy to provide me with a wealth of options.

Orange 70s Fondue Pot

Orange 70s Fondue Pot

Nothing says old skool more than orange. An orange fondue pot with a dark handle. It doesn’t come with the skewers but that’s ok, they are easy to pick up elsewhere. Priced at $18 its not that shabby.

Vintage Set of 6 Fondue Forks

Vintage Set of 6 Fondue Forks

Case in point. This GREAT set of six fondue forks with coloured enamel tips (so you don’t mix up your fork with that of the over-salivating bloke next to you). They are $9.95 and ooze MCM / Scandinavian style!

Vintage Fantasy Fondue Set

Vintage Fantasy Fondue Set

It had me at fantasy..it had me fantasy. It’s amazing that this decorated fondue pot is in near new condition. I love the flower decal, it’s a little cheesey but in a kewl vintage way and i adore it. It’s $35 if you want it..

Vintage Mid Century Modern Fondue Set

Vintage Mid Century Modern Fondue Set

Look at these wood details!! The bobbly handle on the lid the lovely thick wooden handle on the body…and its shiny silver? Me likey.

Vintage Bright Green Fondue Set

I love the colour of this…so vivid so remarkably kewl. With a k. And only $19 bucks.

Etsy T-T-T-Tuesday: Can you take me away?

Tuesday. It feels like a Monday for me – but that is what happens when you are enslaved to jet-lag. I don’t quite know if I am coming or going, but one thing I am certain of is that it’s time to show some etsy-love. This week, I have been enamoured with vessels and containers for ‘take away’. Carrying your food with you in order to eat while you walk or transport it from a to b, in style of course. You may have seen a few of these items knocking around the blogosphere the past few weeks..but they were so good, I simply had to mention them twice.

 Vintage Paper Ice Cream Cups

Vintage Paper Ice Cream Cups

Second most to cake, I love Ice Cream. Whennever I visit a suburban mall my heart races and my eyes dart about as I *know* there has to be a Haagen Dazs conscession..and it is the concession stands that sell my fave Hd flavour – Pralines and Cream. It’s like no other. The only thing better than buying ice cream is eating it on the go, and Pretty Swank has these gorgeous vintage ice cream cups on sale for $3 per dozen. How cool are they? I see them as being a fun addition to an outdoor bbq or even a garden wedding.

retro orange thermos

retro orange thermos

Oh the good ole, good ole, thermos. For me, the word conjures up images of ‘breath-seeing’ cold days and blue collar workers enjoying chunky soup on the side of the road. You can relive all of these memories and more with pica pica founds retro orange thermos priced at $16.

double thermo-serv thermos

double thermo-serv thermos

Stop the bus. I have NEVER seen one of these before..maybe I am too young to remember it or something 😉 A double sided Thermos? It’s simply genius. Now you can carry coffee on one side for your high-octane guzzling friends, and green tea on the other for your more balanced peace-nik mates. As pinkshirtsncarwrecks says, it’s perfect for what’s left of the movie in the park nights that are happening all around town. And at only $18 I am sure it will not last that long..

Vintage Donut Bags

Vintage Donut Bags

It’s no secret that I love putting things into containers as well as bagging them up (I have a Ziploc collection that would put a supermarket to shame..). Wouldn’t it be a great treat to make some home made doughnuts and put them in these lil baggies as gifts? Only $3 for a dozen..move quick.

Victorian Roses Vntage Tin

Victorian Roses Vntage Tin

I couldn’t leave without mentioning a little bit of granny-chic. This vintage rose tin is darling, a little twee I know but who could resist? Perfect for carrying a few home made biscuits, cupcakes or mini sandwiches…it’s your choice. All I do know is that $8 is a great price for this item by Queen Flourishes.

Etsy T-T-T-Tuesday: Truly time for tea..

Dears, I am in London right now..which means my tea consumption has peaked while my coffee cravings have decreased. Unfortunately, my cake and biccie consumption has also skyrocketed, causing every trainer and nutritionist I know to cringe and shudder involuntarily. Not to worry, when I am not eating and drinking the stuff I am looking at vessels to make them in..this week in etsy is no exception.

I’m off to put the kettle on..

retro enamel tea kettle

retro enamel tea kettle

This 1970’s era enamel kettle is so bright and cheerful it made me grin. The wooden handle is such a nice touch that it could be a nice feature as a useable kettle or mere decorative piece. $30 from pica pica found.

Vintage Mid Century Modern Chrome Coffee Pot Urn with Vintage Fruit Decals and Teak Wooden Handle

Vintage Mid Century Modern Chrome Coffee Pot Urn with Vintage Fruit Decals and Teak Wooden Handle

I have to show coffee a little love.. and this urn is the perfect receptacle in which to do it. The flowers are borderline kitsch but the wooden handle and chrome body make it MCM enough to be kewl. With a 12 cup capacity I can just imagine whipping this out after a wonderful dinner with friends…oh and did I mention? Only $19..have at it my friends!

vintage OPEN BACK floral garden dress

vintage OPEN BACK floral garden dress

Rewind 7 years and I wouldn’t be posting this dress..not just because cravenmaven.com didn’t exist back then, but because I could’ve fitted into this wonderful treat back then and would NOT be offering it to anyone else to buy before me! Isn’t it the perfect tea party dress? It would go well with a hat I spied in anthropologie the other day..hmmm..$32 from allen company inc.

Modern White Teapot

Modern White Teapot

Hindsvik are so good at doing what they do that barely a week passes where I don’t see something I love in their store and +fave it. This teapot is a classic example of the good results of their carefully curating eye. Interesting curves and lines, a whimsical feel and a graphic almost superhero swoosh of a design..this is more than a teapot..its a sculpture for your high tea table. $210 my friends…enjoy it if you get it!
