Greasing one’s palate with flavoured olive oil

Nudo Olive oil infused with Chilli

I never really put much ‘thought’ into my Olive Oil. I mean I always bought the extra virgin olive oil just because it looked a little less dense and full on than the regular olive oil. But that’s just my perception – recently a friend gifted me with Olive oil infused with chili and garlic by La Barre.

I have to say, I didn’t know that olive oil was made in a variety of flavours, but it has fast become one of my most favourite things to use when cooking. I use it as the oil of choice for my vegetarian chilli’s, in some soups, in my curries and drizzled over home made mozzarella- yum. The pre-infused oil saves the step of chopping garlic or chilli’s, (which inevitably always seem to end up in my eye..). The garlic and chilli being pre-loaded into the oil allows for the flavour to maturate richly. Unfortunately, being so enthusiastic in the use of this oil has led me to run short…and as La Barre is currently only distributed in Australia, I started looking around for infused oils in the US. Thus, I happened across – Nudo Italia, a company that specialises in extra virgin olive oil infused with lemon, chillies, mandarin and thyme.

Priced at $11.99 for 250ml, it’s not exactly at the price point of your supermarket olive oil, but it would add to the repertoire of cooking oils in your cupboard that I am sure you won’t regret having. Give it a try! I was somewhat skeptical at first but am now a huge fan of infused oils and the flavour they can add to one’s dishes.

  1. I love Olive Oil, but it just runs out so fast and it’s so expensive! I only recently learned of ‘flavored’ oils myself, and the garlic ones are great, drizzle it on some crusty Italian bread and voila! Tasty! Or as you suggest, fresh Mozarella, some cherry or grape tomatoes, breadsticks or crackers and a few drizzles of that and it’s a great snack.
